Small Experiments

I am allowed to try things without committing to who I am because of them.

There is a part of you that may have stopped trying new things long ago, because trying meant risk, and risk meant criticism, and criticism took more out of you than the trying was worth. That part is allowed to come back online slowly. You are allowed to be curious again. You are allowed to follow a small thread of interest without explaining yourself.

A small experiment can be very small. Reading a kind of book you would not have read before. Sitting at a different café. Wearing a color you used to love. Taking the long way home. None of these are identities. They are explorations, and exploration is how a person who has been small for a long time begins to find out what they are now.

You can try and not love it. That is not failure. That is information. You are learning the texture of yourself again by noticing what fits and what does not. The things that do not fit are not wasted — they are part of the map.

Today, you might let yourself notice one small thing you have been quietly curious about. Not a life-changing thing. Just a curiosity. Let the curiosity be allowed. See what happens if you follow it for a single afternoon, with no obligation to anyone, including the version of yourself you imagine you should be.

I am allowed to be curious. Small experiments are how I find my way back to myself.
