Understanding Complex PTSD
Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD) develops after prolonged, repeated trauma, particularly in relationships where escape is difficult. This assessment is based on the International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ), validated across multiple countries as one of the most reliable screening tools for trauma-related disorders.
What This Assessment Measures
PTSD Core Symptoms: Re-experiencing (intrusive memories, flashbacks), Avoidance (avoiding trauma triggers), Hyperarousal (heightened alertness, difficulty sleeping).
Complex PTSD Additional Symptoms: Emotional Dysregulation (difficulty managing intense reactions), Negative Self-Concept (persistent worthlessness or shame), Relationship Difficulties (difficulty trusting, feeling distant from people).
Who Should Take This Assessment
This screening tool is designed for adults who have experienced prolonged or repeated trauma: survivors of childhood abuse, domestic violence, narcissistic abuse, or anyone whose trauma symptoms feel beyond what traditional PTSD describes.
Clinical Context & Research Foundation
Complex PTSD was officially recognized in the WHO's ICD-11 in 2018, acknowledging that prolonged trauma creates a distinct pattern beyond standard PTSD. C-PTSD typically requires different therapeutic approaches addressing trauma processing, identity reconstruction, emotional regulation, and relationship repair.
Survivors of prolonged interpersonal trauma are significantly more likely to develop Complex PTSD than standard PTSD, because the trauma occurs in relational contexts, often during developmental periods when identity and relational patterns are forming.
Important Disclaimers & Privacy
This is a screening tool only, not a diagnostic instrument. Only a qualified mental health professional can diagnose PTSD or Complex PTSD after comprehensive evaluation.
